Abstract
  • This thesis project integrates the practice of Visio Divina in the preaching preparation of the preacher and the community, as well as in the preaching event itself. The first chapter lays the foundation for Visio Divina by surveying the history and seminal literature of Lectio Divina and the use of sacred art within the tradition of the Church. The second chapter sees the prayer practices of Lectio Divina and Visio Divina being integrated into a methodology for preaching preparation. The third chapter demonstrates, through five preaching cases, how the incorporation of Visio Divina can become part of the preaching preparation process that includes not only the preacher but parish Partners-in-Preaching groups. The fourth chapter and the appendices highlight the learning's and give evidence for integrating Visio Divina in the Ministry of the Word in a parish setting by the response received back from parishioners at Our Lady of the Black Hills in Piedmont, SD
