Abstract
  • This project addresses the healing power of sacred rites and rituals in the pastoral counseling process. The project addresses three questions. Do sacred rites and rituals contribute to the healing that occurs in the pastoral counseling relationship? How are sacred rites and rituals therapeutic? Under what circumstances do rites and rituals bring healing? Five counseling cases from the author's pastoral counseling practice are presented and analyzed using a qualitative methodology. The outcome is a framework for suggesting under what circumstances sacred rites and rituals may contribute to the healing process as it takes place in the pastoral counseling relationship.
