Abstract
  • “Who am I?” and “Why am I here?” Without an objective revelation from Scripture, teens are left to find answers to those questions from “within” or from a culture that teaches that identity can be found in what they accomplish, or through the image they project. Alternatively, the biblical concept of vocation teaches that people serve as God’s agents to lovingly sustain the world through their roles (vocations) in life—in family, at work, in the community and church. Teens need of what the teaching of vocation offers. A high calling is offered through the biblical concept of vocation. However, there are few, if any, materials or curricula available to teach the concept of vocation for today’s high school audience. The concern over a lack of materials or curricula on vocation prompted the focus of this project. If materials were created for a high school audience, and then taught, would the topic be seen as relevant and resonate with the audience? Further, would this material also be comprehended and understood? The challenge of this project was to create a curriculum that would be designed in such a way that the concept would be remembered and applied. This experiment in ministry helped the writer grow in the understanding of the topic of vocation and, through providing a written curriculum, introduced students to a new way of seeing their life in Christ and God’s ultimate purpose for them in being a channel of His love and care to others.
