Abstract
  • The research thesis is that nurturing skills of fathers are increased by providing a process to address the need and a father/son event to practice nurturing skills. The research assumed that many fathers lack capabilities of nurturing adolescent sons. The research procedure used the observational/ethnomethodical method to determine the findings. The process provided a personal fathering profile to reveal nurturing strengths/weaknesses, a workshop to address issues systemic to nurturing, and a father/son wilderness trip to practice nurturing skills. The action project concluded that the participating fathers' nurturing capabilities of listening, affirming, encouraging, and comforting increased.
