Abstract
  • This paper explores a Reformed understanding of spiritual development and applies the perspective gained to aiding the spiritual nourishment and preparation of elders in a Presbyterian Church. Through a study of Zwingli and Calvin, one can see the interplay between a sovereign God and human responsibility in a individual's spiritual growth. Turretin, Edwards, and Pannenberg demonstrate the inherent fluidity within form intrinsic to Reformed spirituality. The last half of this study applies fourteen Reformed principles of spiritual development to the nurture of a specific group of Presbyterian elders through a variety of vehicles.
