- Understanding social action as a gospel mandate, the researcher tested the extent to which Sunday Eucharist celebration orders the lives of believers for Christian mission; and reciprocally, whether just living compels the faithful toward 'full, conscious and active participation' in Sunday liturgy. Through ethnographic study, research of church traditions and teaching, the author engaged the operative theologies of local people in critical correlation with the heritage of the US Black Church and Catholic tradition. The theological dialogue highlights the need for authentically Black, truly Catholic pastoral approaches that respect liturgical praxis and social action as reciprocal rhythms in Christian life.
