Abstract
  • Guidelines for ministry, which assist the older person through the adaptive process of discovering and engaging in new interests, activities, and relationships when adequate substitutes must be found for the satisfaction of needs, are tested among 580 church members and 100 religious leaders in Southern California, comparing the responses of notable and non-notable work. Notable congregations almost without exception rank themselves higher in the ministry functions of the guidelines. Furthermore, the prophetic ministry function, which issues from faith, is dominant over the priestly and kingly functions, which issue from love and hope, respectively.
