- Abstract
- This four-phase study provides: 1. a summary of the historic entwinement of religion and medicine; 2. the conclusions of surveys of the medical and nursing staffs, patients, and ministering local clergy of an accute-care hospital that affirmed the importance of religious conviction and pastoral ministry in the healing process and the need for specially trained clergy on the health care team; 3. an exegesis of Matthew 10:1, 7, 8, 40 which elicits a gospel mandate for Christian clergy to conduct such healing ministries; and 4. a review of the essentials for, and the creation of, a broad-based, pragmatic curriculum model for training clergy for ministry in the hospital.
