- Abstract
- Nine small rural and small-town congregations attempted to increase congregational participation in their Sunday morning service using simple drama and storytelling activities based on an appropriate scripture passage. Scripts designed for minimal staging and preparation invited children and adults from the congregation to step into stories and skits, sometimes with no rehearsal or no warning. Feedback from pastors and members of the congregations offered an enthusiastic response, with some interesting reservations. Their comments provide and eloquent discussion of how people understand Sunday morning and how drama and story can animate their church experience. Transcripts of interviews and group discussions are included.
