Abstract
  • This project explores the dynamics of dramatic changes in American society since 1960 that have greatly influenced congregational singing. Historical analysis of music issues facing Disciples of Christ from 1830-1880 demonstrates that questions churches confront today are similar to those that were addressed in the past. Contemporary hymns can help mainline churches revitalize worship without discarding traditional orders of worship.
