Abstract
  • The purpose of this thesis was to prepare material that would enable the Anglican Church Missionary Society of Australia (a foreign mission board) to formulate its policy for mission in Australia. The Anglican Church has made requests for CMSA to provide personnel and resources to enable it to reach out to those of non-English-speaking backgrounds. The thesis provides a statistical overview of the changing composition of the Australian population and an historical reflection on missionary efforts over the past two hundred years among the indigenous population. The theological underpinning for any mission activity is explored along with the theological blockages to mission endeavor. The two horizons of theological reflection and the historical-statistical context are then brought together to provide the framework needed for a policy resolution.
