Abstract
  • Entire sanctification is the distinctive doctrine proclaimed by the Church of the Nazarene. The study attempts to ascertain if those ordained by the church claim to be in the experience of entire sanctification or if the doctrine is understood. Each ordinand in the United States and Canada in 1980 was questioned concerning his understanding, experience, and the methodology employed by the Board of Orders and Relations in evaluating qualifications for the role of elder. Questionnaires were also sent to the chairman of the Board of Orders and Relations of each district. Although results of the questionnaire show strengths in the examination procedures, weaknesses also appear. Corrective measures to insure the perpetuity of the doctrine are suggested.
