Abstract
  • The objective of this project was to use spiritual direction to help grieving members of New Liberty Baptist Church in Detroit, Michigan achieve emotional healing and spiritual formation. This was achieved through a two weekend grief retreat and sixteen sessions of spiritual direction. Nineteen of the participants completed pre-test and post-test questionnaires to assess the impact of the formative event. The greatest benefit was in terms of increasing emotional and spiritual healing, promoting a greater experience of God, and learning how to express grief more constructively. Implications for future ministry with grieving people were considered.
