Abstract
  • The author conceived this project to strengthen and support the work of the elders in the pastoral care of the members of First Christian Church, Richardson, Texas. It is a structured way of reaching out to all the members of the congregation to let them know that the church cares about them. Built into the program is direct, personal contact with nuclear, modal, marginal, and dormant members. Along with one-to-one contact there are new fellowship opportunities designed to low for closer relationships to develop within small groups. Through the shepherding groups, those who had established networks of relationships and had begun to know each other better were able to respond pastorally in times of need.
