- Abstract
- The purpose of this project was to equip selected deacons at First Baptist Church, Remlap, Alabama to lead couples with troubled marriages toward healthy relationships. During the first phase of this project, research was conducted to provide content for a workshop to train selected deacons in basic marriage counseling skills and healthy relationships. The second phase included development of the workshop training curriculum and enlistment of selected deacons. The third phase of this project was the implementation phase where the project director presented the curriculum during seven training sessions. Teaching methodologies included lecture, group discussions, participant interaction, and visual illustrations. A pre/post test and written evaluations were used to determine the deacons' ability to perform their duties as lay counselors.
