Abstract
  • The project investigated the relationship between the therapeutic alliance forged in pastoral counseling and the self-esteem levels of the counselees. A group of sixteen mid-life men were administered the Tennessee Self-Concept Scale. The group was then divided into test and control groups of eight men. The test group met in a weekly counseling session with the author where basic relationship building skills were implemented for twelve weeks. At the end of twelve weeks, the entire sample was again administered the Scale. Positive movement in the level of self-esteem accompanied the creation of the therapeutic alliance.
