Abstract
  • The thesis is that pastoral supervision skills and role for parish clergy in supervising laity can be taught in a brief course. Four students enrolled in a 1/2 unit CPE course are researched in a quasi-experimental design focusing on selected roles and skills. A pre- and post-test questionnaire and video-taped simulated supervisory sessions are used to identify growth. Results are mixed, although directions for further inquiry are noted. The curriculum is presented in detail and implications for teaching pastoral supervision to parish clergy are described. Suggested topics for inclusion in any supervisory training experience of parish pastors are also detailed.
