Abstract
  • The religious thinking of international students differs significantly from that which is described in standard works on comparative religion. This thesis was tested through a survey of 106 international students at the University of Texas. Survey items were drawn from writings by authorities from each of the major religions on the subject of prayer. Buddhist, Catholic, and Hindu students conformed to official profiles for less than one-third of the measured items, suggesting greater religious independence. Muslim and Protestant students agreed with official teachings for two-thirds of the measured items, although a slight degree of independence was also noted.
