Abstract
  • This project developed guidelines and resources to assist the district superintendent in practical matters of church planting. The model involves nation-wide research through questionnaires and interviews. Testing was done within the context of the Atlanta-Roswell District. The model includes a district church development plan. Results from across the denomination show that the district superintendent's role in new church development is taken seriously; however, the clarity of the role and evaluations of performance of the superintendet are mediocore. Testing indicates that the superintendent can address blocking forces by involvement of clergy and laity in planning for and in launching a new congregation.
