Abstract
  • Four communication issues were presented to married couples in a local church. Active listening, articulating personal needs, triangulation, and four ego defenses, drawn primarily from Virginia Satir and Murray Bowen's ideas, were explored through verbal presentations, skits, and discussions. As a result, the participants were better able to identify potential problem patterns of communication. They were also able to successfully apply this learning to their marriages one month later. The author concluded that this workshop experience was a major step in raising the awareness of couples to the possibility of relational growth in marriage through more effective marital communication.
