Abstract
  • Exploring the experience of adult pastors' children currently disengaged from the church, this phenomenological research study examines the expectations, identity, roles, and public-private tension that exist for pastors' children and their families. A process of demystification is identified as taking place with respect to the church and their pastor-parent. The way by which their individual and communal needs are affirmed or denied is also discussed. The participants critique the church's theology and practices, particularly with respect to judgmentalism and exclusivism. Their current faith perspectives and practices are examined, with authenticity, inclusivity, and a personal faith being most valued by them.
