Abstract
  • This project researches the ministry of initial spiritual direction as a sacred journey, a pilgrimage. The metaphor of Christian pilgrimage as a biblical and historical model complements this ascetic spirituality. The project combines theoretical study of biblical, historical, and theological concepts of pilgrimage with an actual pilgrimage. Questionnaires and journal reflections of partipants relate the project to contemporary practice of spiritual direction. The motif of pilgrimage offers a dynamic symbol assisting early directees in their interior and actual experience of spiritual direction.
