Abstract
  • This thesis deals with theological, homiletical, and practical challenges associated with preaching about money in an affluent congregation. Using different homiletical strategies: connecting money and mission in year one; money and mystagogy in year two; and forgoing theological connections in order to speak directly about money in year three; the author examined the advantages and challenges to each approach, and presented statistical analysis based on congregational survey results collected at the end of the series. The implication of this work is that 'money' needs to be addressed explicitly in preaching, and not simply referenced indirectly as an unspoken aspect of stewardship.
