- Abstract
- There is a lack of understanding and appreciation of infant baptism within the Dyersburg Cumberland Presbyterian Church. This is primarily due to the lack of education of new members, parents and children. A strong emphasis upon individual response in one's faith journey cheapens the significance and value of the covenant community. This thesis proposes a situation in which the congregation would have a strong understanding of infant baptism, confirmation, and the covenant community. A 'confirmation' type program on the meaning of the sacraments, opportunities for parental education, and times within the worshipping community for reaffirmation of baptismal vows will promote change.
