Abstract
  • This thesis project explores a church plant strategy for the Western Maryland area that takes into account the evangelistic mission of the universal Church and the changing dynamics of American and Maryland culture. To do so, it uses two layers of research strategies: (1) at the national level, a qualitative analysis of two national reports and generalizations made about the American Church and culture and (2) at the regional level, an anonymous survey of individuals and participation in both a nondenominational church plant and an established mainstream congregation. This thesis project challenges the argument that the American Church is in decline and proposes a strategy by which new and established congregations can successfully take part in the reformed American Church that is emerging.
