  • This project investigates the extent to which the goal of Lutheran preaching is further realized when the preacher adopts the self-image of representing Christ the bridegroom to the church, Christ's bride. The goal of Lutheran preaching is defined as letting hearers encounter Christ so that they are strengthened for faith and discipleship. Four pastors took part in one-day preaching workshop in which the importance of the preacher's self-image was introduced and explained. Each pastor agreed to preach a sermon series in which self-image was at the forefront of his mind. A focus group evaluated each sermon and the survey results suggested a positive correlation between self-image and goal.
