Abstract
  • This study was based on the hypothesis that North American mainline churches increasingly are oriented toward the middle and upper classes and are failing to reach blue-collar workers. The study includes a review of literature and interviews with church leaders and more than 600 workers. Part of the study is conducted in England to provide a comparison with another industrialized society. The hypothesis is found to be accurate and a number of guidelines are developed to help overcome the problem.
