- Abstract
- This project evaluates the Wellspring Pastoral Residency at Wellspring Church, a two-year experience, that focuses on three overarching objectives: education, experience, and exposure, for the purpose of training pastors. As a two-year experience, the residency integrates nine core competencies with which to accomplish pastoral formation. Spurred by a biblical vision of shepherding and life-on-life mentorship, the study asks in what ways and to what extent is the residency achieving its stated objectives, falling short of its stated objectives, and what changes should be made to better achieve its stated objectives? Using a qualitative case-study design, the project conducted interviews with six current residents, the residency director, and the church’s leadership team. Findings were analyzed through thematic coding and verification procedures to connect evidence to the stated goals of the project. The project’s outcomes included a thick description of residents’ lived formation in the residency, identification of program strengths and weaknesses, and an outlay of actionable recommendations to strengthen mentorship practices for the experience.
