Abstract
  • This thesis-project sought to determine whether the chosen path to renewal for a declining mainline Protestant church was the best path; that being a combination of structural, management, administrative, and functional strategies, or whether a spiritual/theological focus might provide new opportunities for revival. The method of study is described by the dialogue between praxis-theory-praxis articulated by James D. Whitehead and Evelyn Eaton Whitehead. The author suggested that the path to renewal is 'spiritual/God centered', returning to John Wesley's teaching, with the focus being personal growth in holiness through faith in Christ, ultimately carrying out God's mission in the world.
