- Abstract
- The author began the study believing there is a tremendous need to understand the process by which congregations grow and develop. He integrated the developmental stages of Erik Erikson, James Fowler and the classical order of salvation and developed a grid that can be used descriptively and prescriptively in charting the life development of a congregation. He also added a level entitled faith dynamic which identifies the type of faith experience that becomes the major theme at specific stages of development. The author has formally and informally used the grid both as a pastor and as a consultant. This specific study shows the use of this grid in a large suburban church that had lost much of its vitality and charts its development from 1977 to 1986.
