Abstract
  • A pastoral counselor can use active imagination with Christ-centered prayer to bring healing to a counselee. The paper shows that the faith of the counselee can bring forgotten material to awareness and to resolution when prayer is used in the process of active imagination. The notion of active imagination is found in the works of C G Jung. Qualities of active imagination in some of the commentaries on Jung are listed. After examining the effects of original sin, the author examines the process of redemption that seeks to heal these wounds of human nature. He then takes an in-depth look at grace and faith in this process of healing and examines the understanding of prayer as an instrument of this entire process. Christ-centered prayer has a special power. Actual cases of counseling, prayer and active imagination help to understand the results of such a procedure to the counselee. The minister is truly counselor and pastor as the Holy Spirit brings light and healing.
