Abstract
  • The project tested whether themes of oppression, redemption, and social action found in the dialog of liberation theology with United Methodist traditions could assist the laity of a local church for social ministry in a rural United Methodist parish. These themes were introduced through a Bible study and a series of worship services. Methods of research included personal interviews as well as questionnaires. The churches from the parish started a food and clothing closet because of the project as well as having an increased awareness of the issues of oppression, justice, and social action.
