  • Relevant data is drawn from the Old and New Testaments as well as research findings from the fields of family therapy and network therapy to describe a model of crisis intervention which involves the development of caring networks within the congregation of Northampton United Methodist Church, Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio. Five illustrations of crisis ministry, including providing support to help the individuals mobilize their coping resources, share their emotional load, provide physical assistance in terms of money, skills and/or cognitive guidance are shared. An evaluative questionnaire indicated that in every case in which the minister and congregation were aware of and responded to the needs of the person in crisis, the person reacted affirmatively to the intervention.
