Abstract
  • The purpose of this dissertation/project is to examine how clergy wives move between vicarious identity and authentic personhood, and the problems of identity that may arise. Many clergy wives experience God's love as real and believable in one's daily life. A few women married to clergy do not experience authentic personhood. The study identified programs, methodologies and strategies that were helpful. One hundred-six clergy's wives responded to a survey instrument. Data from other similar studies supplemented the survey instrument.
