Abstrakt

This paper contains short stories told by Latvian Lutherans reminiscing about their past or current faith experiences encountered in their childhood, adolescence, adulthood, during the war, while fleeing from Soviet occupation of Latvia, in displaced persons' camps of Germany, in the new countries of their refuge, or similar instances. Close to one hundred reminiscences which are in a form of testimonies or witnesses provide the background for the author's theological views and position. The introduction, called prelude, of the paper gives a brief historical overview of Latvia, Latvians, and Latvian Christian heritage. Many vignettes and three painting reproductions in color depict the suffering inflicted on Latvian people by the Soviets.
