Abstract
  • There is a turning point occurring today in discussions about youth ministry. Youth ministry theologians have recently begun to argue for the need to shift from focusing on the formal structure of youth ministry and rather focus on the informal structures involved in youth ministry. This project focuses on a study of the informal structures involved in the 2006 Youth Theology Initiative (YTI) Summer Academy. The role of the informal structure of residential life during the 2006 YTI Summer Academy is explored and is shown to have made a significant transformative impact in the lives of the youth who participated in the program. This case study of the role of such informal structures makes a unique contribution to recent discussions that are primarily theoretical.
