Abstract
  • The purpose of the project was to equip young adult men who have not been ordained as deacons with the leadership skills necessary to serve effectively as deacons if and when they are nominated, selected, and ordained to the deacon ministry. The equipping program model was utilized in this project. Project participants took a pre-test to determine the level of their knowledge of deacon ministry, their understanding of the biblical qualities of a deacon's life, and their comfort level if they were to be chosen as a deacon. The pre-test was followed by a six-week equipping seminar that included classroom instruction, on-the-job training with a deacon mentor/encourager, a personality profile, and spiritual gifts inventory.
