- Abstract
- Autism spectrum disorders raise unique theological and pastoral issues for clergy and faith communities. Little education about the disorder, theological reflection, and discussion of the pastoral needs has occurred in the life and work of the church. This project seeks to fill this void, utilizing the biblical genre of lament, the book of Lamentations, and the scholarship of Kathleen M. O'Connor to establish a theological framework for understanding autistic individuals and those who love and care for them. This work also provides an overview of medical information about the disorder in terms accessible and helpful to pastors and congregations.
