Never-married adults have few tools to assist them as they navigate life as single adults. these individuals experience the loss of hopes and dreams that remain unidentified, unnamed, unacknowledged, and ungrieved. Many of these losses fall under the rubric of marriage, and include the loss of emotional and financial security, changes in friendships following a friend's marriage, and legacy. This project thesis examined some grief models and offered adaptations for use with never-married adults. The researcher developed and tested surveys to assist in identifying, naming, acknowledging, and grieving the loss of hopes and dreams.
