Abstract
  • This thirteen-week project is an experiment designed to test the effectiveness of outreach visitation on Sunday mornings at Istrouma Baptist Church. Twelve lay people (hereafter called 'evangelists') will receive eight weeks of training. In weeks nine through twelve, they will leave during the two morning worship services to go door-to-door to share their faith, since many non-Christian people will be at home during this time. The evangelists will solicit prayer requests, promote Istrouma, and witness, and before the end of the worship service, one spokesperson will report back to the church via a cellular telephone. It is hoped the congregation will catch a vision for evangelism through hearing about the lives of real people live over the public address system. Then, the church will be encouraged to pray for those in need. In week thirteen, the project will be evaluated. Follow-up, not discussed herein, will happen in the days thereafter. This project will help the writer and the evangelists grow in their witnessing ability. Furthermore, the church will gain exposure and credibility in the community, perhaps leading to growth. Most importantly, it is hoped that lost people will discover a saving relationship with Christ.
