Abstract
  • This project identifies seven common characteristics that have influenced the growth of three 'mainline' congregations--chosen from among 23 revealed by studies of seven denominations--that have increased from fewer than 100 to more than 400 persons in weekly worship over the past 10 years. From studying these three congregations in depth, the project determines that leadership, biblical focus, creative worship, lay ministry, high expectations, specialized ministries, and mission-driven structures have contributed to their numerical growth.
