Abstrait

This project analyzes the mission program of the Nigerian Baptist Convention and proposes some recommendations that will enable it to participate actively in world evangelization in the new millennium. Chapter one defines the structure of the project, the purpose and research methodology. Chapter two traces the beginning of evangelical mission in Nigeria from its beginning in 1850 up to 1997, and analyzes its methods, strategies and philosophies. Chapter three examines the socio-economic and political influences that affected Nigerian Christianity, dividing its history into four epochs. Chapter four looks at the ecclesiastical influences of the Nigerian church and its missions. Chapters five and six spell out the recommendations for improving the mission program. The author recommends a spiritual-gift based mission and discusses the need for theological education, missionary training, and a new understanding of partnership along with mission pitfalls to avoid.
