Abstract
  • The goal of this applied research project is to discover what traits of the ministry mentoring process are reported to have been valuable in encouraging and preparing people for vocational ministry in the North American Chinese church context. This project begins with a survey of biblical and professional literature regarding the subject of vocational ministry mentoring. Special emphasis has been placed upon literature that addresses the cultural issues that one may face while ministering in the North American Chinese church context. The centerpiece of this project revolves around two case studies of Chinese churches that are presently sponsoring and hosting vocational ministry internships. Once case study was conducted at the West Houston (Houston, Tex) Chinese Church and the second involving two churches with a cooperative internship program--the Chinese Bible Church of Maryland (Rockville, Md), and the Chinese Christian Church of Greater Washington, DC (Silver Spring, Md). The conclusion of this project provides a checklist for designing a mentoring for ministry program that implements the traits that have been helping in encouraging and preparing people for vocational ministry in the North American Chinese church context.
