  • Beginning well in ministry is an issue that many denominations and congregations are aware requires special attention. This study focuses on a particular Baptist body, the Cooperative Baptist Fellowship, and the experiences of some of its recent seminary graduates transitioning into pastoral ministry. The report explores three particular dynamics associated with heathy transitions for first-call ministers: peer learning, mentoring, and congregational support. It lifts up experiences from work with pastors and lay leaders which result in a compilation of dynamics for ministers and congregations alike to watch for in early years of a first-call pastor's tenure.
