Abstract
  • Many local churches in America are planting new churches. Most church planting ministries seek to establish mature churches that are autonomous. However, some are maintaining a relationship with daughter churches, exercising control over them as 'one church meeting in several locations'. This phenomenon has been called a branch church or satellite church ministry. This project examines the ministries of three influential Baptist churches that are involved in satellite church ministry. This is intriguing in the light of Baptist polity and the missiological principle of indigeneity. The project is an attempt to discern the extent to which this method of ministry is transferrable for larger churches with metropolitan ministries. Is it possible that the unity of a particular church may be maintained though the church meets in multiple locations? Is this a key to an effective urban strategy?
