Abstract
  • This project proposes an integrated pastoral approach to guide pastors in intervening effectively in lives of persons with suicidal thoughts, steering them beyond crisis to a new and higher level of life. Building on an integrated theology of suicide drawn from biblical study and research in sociology and psychology, the project concludes that, while emotional, cognitive, affective, behavioral, and social factors cannot be ignored, the central issue in a suicide crisis is spiritual. The project describes the roles of pastoral staff, congregations, communities, families, and individuals in prevention, intervention, and postvention of suicide.
