Abstract
  • Monroe United Methodist Church, Monroe, WI, has witnessed dramatic fluctuation and ultimate decline in membership and attendance for 40 years beginning at the merger of three churches in 1968 and had not shown a biblical response of repentance or effectiveness in being fishers of men. This loss can be compared to the losses in the Assyrian and Babylonian exiles of ancient Israel. Qualitative research revealed reasons people left the church: poor pastoral follow-up including confirmation, problems in worship leadership and administrative leadership, a closed leadership system and the content of various pastor's teaching.
