Abstrakt

Liberty City is a predominantly low- to low-middle-income African-American community in Miami, Florida suffering from many social and economic ills. Liberty Square is a 54-square-block area of federally subsidized housing located in Liberty City. Eight African-American congregations surround Liberty Square, but over 200 African-American churches are located in Liberty City. Most of these churches have ignored the problems in Liberty Square. This project seeks to uncover the reasons for these churches' uninvolvement, and it details the creation of a community faith-based outreach organization designed to address the area's identified social ills.
