Abstract
  • In the rapidly expanding Baltimore-Washington corridor (BWC), newly planted 'urban corridor churches' do not own church buildings. Investors owning and buying properties for speculation place the church in a lopsided competition for property ownership. Assumptions of some churchgoers who understand the steepled church building as an authenticating symbol require a pastor to address perceptions hindering church growth. This project offers findings that suggest that people are tied to a steepled-church concept. Development of a localized theology and the ability to invert perceptions and business practices are essential to the continued existence of the corridor church.
