Abstract

Closing the gap between faith and practice is a spiritual issue. Spirituality is the process of being related to and affected by the Spirit. The Spirituality Assessment Inventory (SAI) was used to measure spirituality. A series of sermons emphasizing the disciplines of Bible reading, prayer, fasting, worship, ministry, a rule of life, and spiritual formation were delivered. Small groups were convened and qualitative data was gathered. The gap was not closed, but it was learned that there are gender and age differences relative to spirituality and preaching and teaching impacts people's willingness to engage in spiritual disciplines.
